According to The Hollywood Reporter, Eddie Murphy is allegedly in talks to host the Oscars this year. Oscar producer, Brett Ratner, who just directed Eddie in the comedy film "Tower Heist," is pushing the idea.

To not rule out other candidates, Billy Crystal's name has also been thrown in the ring. Crystal has hosted the Oscars 8 times and to critical acclaim. Billy has shown interest in hosting again and those at The Academy love him.

The Academy hopes to have all negotations for its' telecast (which would include hosting duties) done by mid-September.
We just don't want the Oscars to suck. So it would be great if they could negotiate that during the negotiations process.
UPDATE:
No longer a rumor. Murphy's now the guy.

Musical Academy
Okay so initially the whole Beyonce and Hugh Jackman broadway-like performace was cool for the first 15 seconds or so during the Academy Awards ceremony. Then the Mama Mia kids and Zac and Vanessa of High School Musical showed up and it became a medley of stank. To be clear, it was already a bit funky before the rest joined in.
... at least Ben Stiller brought the funny parodying Joaquin Phoenix.

What's Better Than A Gold Statue?
Another baby according to Joel Madden who is expecting baby number 2 with long-time girlfriend, Nicole Ritchie. The two already have 13 month old daughter Harlow. Not sure if many peeps agree with that Joel, cause a statue will not keep you up at night or make unmentionables in their diapers, but anyhoo here's what Joel posted last night on his band, Good Charlotte's website:
"What's better than winning an Oscar? I am so happy to tell everyone that Harlow is going to be a big sister! God has truly blessed my family. Hope your all feeling as good as i am right now..."
