30,000 Deemed To Ugly To Date

According to The Guardian, Beautiful People is an exclusive dating website for men and women but only for those deemed, "beautiful," hence the name of the site. Membership is solely based on what their definition of good looks are. So if your nose is not asymmetrical, you better head over to match.com. Unfortunately shit hit the fan, when 30,000 "ugly people" got their seal of approval, to enter and join the members of beautiful people, due to its' website getting hit with a virus that of course they named, Shrek. After rejecting their membership due to the Shrek virus, Beautiful People offered these ugly ducklings counseling and by phone at that. Kicking them out, cost the company more than $100,000. In this case I guess it is safe to say, beauty trumps money.

However don't think once you're in you're in. In 2009, Beautiful People dumped 5,000 members at Christmas for getting fat. They called this campaign, with the help of their PR firm, Golden Goose PR, Festive Fatties. At least for the holidays those dumped could... well, eat.

Managing Director of Beautiful People, Greg Hodge, who also has a not so flattering name, gave this statement which sums up this catastrophe best:

"We have to stick to our founding principles of only accepting beautiful people – that's what our members have paid for." "We can't just sweep 30,000 ugly people under the carpet."
